Village of Lyons Downtown Development Authority wishes to thank those who have contributed names, funds, labor, equipment, time and those who have shown a supportive interest.  There are four more wall sections planned for the areas marked.  The block and brick for these additional walls are already purchased.  The DDA is also hoping to procure funding for three new flag poles to be placed behind the main wall.  Other plaques and name plates will be ordered as lists are completed.  How the names on these plaques will be grouped will be determined largely by the quantities in each possible collection.  The general plan is to recognize each of the major conflicts with a plaque, including special recognition of POW, KIA, MIA, and Wounded in Action.  Recognition of Peace time service of those in the Lyons area during its entire history is also planned. This is an open ended project and will be updated as info and funds allow.  We are compiling a list of veterans using these basic guidelines:

- Veterans with Honorable Discharge.
- Any branch of the US armed services.
- Any dates of service
- Resident of Lyons, Muir, Pewamo before, during or after

Flexibility in the scope of this list is very important to those working on the project.  While there may be guidelines, we will surely have reason for exceptions.

The project is nearing completion.  Flagpoles are up, brick-laying is almost done and plaques are expected to be delivered and up on time.  Several forces have come together to create  something truly special.  There is a Rededication Ceremony planned August 22, 2009 during Lyons' 150th Celebration.  We are inviting ALL veterans to a Veteran Parade with Color Guard beginning at 7:00 pm.  Meet  at 6:45 pm near the Baptist church (Hunt and Elizabeth Streets) for a 3 block march to the Monument.  Flag raising, special music and more is planned for the Ceremony.  We are working on arranging accommodations for those not up to the march.  Seating available at the Monument.

The Village of Lyons Downtown Development Authority again wishes to thank all those who have helped in 'completing' the project in time for the 150th Celebration.  The Rededication Ceremony was on August 22, 2009.  Many veterans from around the county rode on the Ionia Free Fair Association's tram down the hill to the Ceremony.  They were greeted with a hearty applause from the guests.  A light rain did fall but it was brief.  Several donations were received following the Ceremony.  Lyons Event Committee wishes to thank all participants and guests who helped to make the Ceremony an honorable and memorable event.  This project is on-going.  The Lyons DDA is still looking for more names to be added as well as the funding to do so and some finishing touches.  Forms for adding names are available at the Lyons Village Office and donations to the project will always be greatly appreciated.  There is a special 'Thank You' available at the Village Office for donations of $5 or more.  If you have any questions regarding the Monument, please contact:

The project is nearly complete in regards to actual construction and major plaques.  Replacing the WWII plaque to match the other periods, a plaque acknowledging contributors, adding a base column for the eagle statue and lighting are among the unfinished items.  A project such as this is never truly complete as there will always be names to be added and - in the distant future - a new period may be added after the close of the current one.  Honoree forms and thank yous are still available and you may send donations to the Lyons Village Office.
